South American UHT milk market: Cemil installs the region’s fastest filling lines for aseptic carton packs Cemil (Minas Gerais Central Dairy Products Cooperative) decided to invest USD 5 million to put a new technology for UHT milk into work in Patos de Minas (MG). Two CFA 812 filling machines from SIG Combibloc, each with a capacity to fill 12,000 1-liter packages per hour, replaced four machines that were formerly used in the plant. The two high-speed filling lines fill the carton packages combiblocMidi with combiLift spout, a very convenient opening solution in the UHT milk segement. A study carried out by Ipsos, an international market research institute, in Minas Gerais showed that consumers see the new package as more attractive, easy to hold, open, close and store. SIG Combibloc’s CFA 812 high-speed machines are flexible and allow for filling volumes of 750 ml and 500 ml as well. These lines are also used to fill soya-based products. Strategic positioning Cemil stands out in the Brazilian dairy market for being the leader in the eastern region, which comprises the states of Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo as well as the interior of Rio de Janeiro.
