The raw material wood: The source material for cartons. Between 75 and 80 percent of a carton is wood fibre. This fibre comes almost exclusively from Scandinavia, where guaranteed more treess are regrown than felled. Today Scandinavia possesses the largest tree population since the beginning of the 20th century, thus protecting this natural primary resource for coming generations. Another very important factor: Extremely strong fibre is used for cartons. This is recovered from broken and thinned-out wood - waste products from the wood processing industry. We give preference to partners who implement a policy of sustainable forest management. The new trees, which are regrowing continuously, have an important side effect for both the environment and the climate. As they grow, the young trees consume large amounts of the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide, producing oxygen in the process. This not only effectively reduceds the carbon dioxide content in the air, but also provides fresh, clean air. A fully grown tree produces oxygen for ten people and filters up to one ton of dust and soot out of the air each year. |
