SIG sets up a fond for victims of the Tsunami in Asia Operationally, SIG is not directly affected by the tragic natural disaster that has occurred in South East Asia. Nevertheless, the Group would like to take concrete action by making a financial contribution to assist those affected in the crisis zone. Immediately following the catastrophe, SIG Combibloc Western Europe transferred the sum of EUR 50.000 to UNICEF. In various areas where the population has been hit by the tidal wave, SIG will make available beverage cartons for liquid food products free of charge. In addition, the Group Executive Committee has decided to establish a charitable fund with an initial amount of EUR 100.000. Various regional SIG companies and business units will forgo planned internal events in the course of this year. The sums budgeted for those occasions will also be contributed to the fund. This local fund will be dedicated to the longer-term care and education of affected children in Thailand and Indonesia. It will be established locally in Thailand and will be administered by the management of SIG Combibloc in Thailand. SIG is a global provider of packaging materials, machines and services for beverages and liquid food products, and the leader in selected markets.
