World premiere in Brasil: Cemil chooses new high-speed machines

January 2008. Speed and efficiency – these are the key features of the new CFA 812 filling machine from SIG Combibloc. Cemil, a regional leading UHT milk manufacturer in Brasil, is the first supplier in the world who decides in favour of the new CFA 812. Cemil is using two of the new machines to fill UHT milk, UHT skimmed milk and soy products in combiblocMidi 1,000 ml – each machine works at a capacity of 12,000 aseptic carton packs per hour.

Cemil was founded in 1992 as a co-operative, with headquarters in Patos de Minas (Triangulo Mineiro region). João Bosco, CEO of Cemil, on the performance of the CFA 812: “We exchanged four machines from a competitor for two machines from SIG Combibloc. By changing the filling machines, we’ve been able to increase our productivity and cut waste at the same time”.

Shared success
The teams from Cemil and SIG Combibloc worked for about a year to bring the project to fruition. João Bosco: “The collaboration with SIG Combibloc was conducted in a very professional manner. The SIG Combibloc experts were right there with us during the initial market research stage, product development, and at the market entry phase, and we were able to count on the company’s full support. We are working together to make this ambitious plan a real success story”.

For Cemil, the challenge of marketing innovative products that represent the state of the art is part of its corporate strategy. The new CFA 812 fitted this strategy perfectly. João Bosco: “The machines from SIG Combibloc offer outstanding performance with high speed, high productivity and minimal waste, making it possible for us to optimise capacity use at our plant”.

Plans to introduce additional volumes and products in the future – for example, soy drinks with new flavours – were a further criterion that Cemil considered when selecting its strategic partner: “The SIG Combibloc filling machines offer an impressive level of flexibility in terms of format and volumes, and on top of that, they are unbeatably fast. That made it easy to decide in favour of the CFA 812”, says Bosco. Up to 12,000 carton packs an hour of combiblocMidi in the volumes 500, 750 or 1,000 ml can be filled using a CFA812.

Brazil’s dairy industry
It is anticipated that, by the end of this year, Brazil will be the world’s fifth biggest dairy producer. Of the approximately 27 thousand million litres of raw milk produced in 2006, about 43 per cent was used for cheese manufacture, 20 per cent for UHT milk and 15 per cent for powdered milk.
Sales of dairy products such as yoghurt and UHT milk are booming. UHT dairy products are proving to be the perfect products for building up a nation-wide supply network in such a vast country.
