Please introduce yourself and mention how long you’ve worked in Bag-in-Box and spouted pouch substrates at SIG.
My name is Rodrigo Israel Salas, and I’ve proudly been part of the Bossar— now SIG —family for 24 years. I currently serve as Managing Director & Global Head of Equipment Operations Spouted Pouch (SP).
Throughout my career, I’ve worked across engineering, production, project management, planning, procurement, and after-sales, always focused on aligning teams, systems, and strategies. This journey has helped me form strong connections with our people, our products, and our customers worldwide.
What originally brought you to this part of the business?
Back when I was working at Chupa Chups, we were using some of the first Bossar quadruple machines. That sparked my interest in the technology. Later, I received an offer to join Bossar — and I’ve been here ever since.
What makes working in flexible packaging exciting or unique?
What excites me most is the opportunity to continuously improve and invent. Working in SP means adapting to evolving customer needs, operational challenges, and sustainability demands — and doing it all with a global perspective. Every day is different, and every project is an opportunity to innovate.
What’s one challenge you’ve helped solve over the years?
One standout innovation I’ve been part of is the development of a patented pouch alignment system — a mechanism that ensures perfect placement of pouches in the machine. This solution has become a standard feature across all our premade pouch machines. It significantly improved efficiency and reliability, and it remains one of our proudest contributions to industry standards.
What values guide your leadership?
I believe in collaborative and transparent leadership. That means nurturing a culture where ideas can thrive, teams feel empowered, and innovation is a shared responsibility. My passion lies in developing people, fostering synergies between departments, and building a workplace driven by excellence and continuous improvement.
