Geiza Gabriela De Matos Leao joined SIG in 2013 as an 18-year-old apprentice in the administrative area of Production in Campo Largo, Brazil. What began as an entry-level role soon sparked a strong interest in the company’s production processes, motivating her to pursue a degree in Production Engineering and build a career at SIG.
Over the years, she advanced through several roles, from Trainee to Production Information Analyst, then to Materials and Production Planning Analyst. In late 2022, she embraced a new challenge by relocating to Mexico as Production Planning and S&OP Coordinator at SIG’s plant in Querétaro.
The years 2020 and 2021 marked a deeply challenging period for Geiza, as she lost both her grandmother and father. This experience gave her a renewed perspective on life and inspired her to seek new experiences abroad, explore new cultures, and take on greater challenges. With the encouragement of her managers and colleagues, she applied for a role in Mexico, and in November 2022, she successfully transitioned to her new position.
Her international move has been rewarding on multiple levels. Professionally, she has strengthened her leadership and cross-functional collaboration skills while learning to work in multiple languages, including Spanish and English. Personally, she has built new friendships, embraced Mexican culture, and found meaningful connections that have enriched her life.
Throughout her journey, SIG has played a vital role in supporting her growth. The company’s global culture and collaborative spirit made the transition to a new country smooth and welcoming, while colleagues across locations shared valuable insights and guidance.
Geiza believes that moving abroad is an opportunity to learn, grow, and contribute in new ways. She encourages colleagues to embrace challenges and cultural differences with an open mind, as the personal and professional benefits far outweigh the uncertainties of change.
