Please introduce yourself and your role at SIG

Hi, I’m Silwut. I’ve been with SIG for 27 years and have travelled to more than 20 countries. Currently, I’m based in Mexico as a Finishing Expert in Global Technology, supporting various global operations.

How was the transition for you?

I’ve worked in many different countries, so I’m used to adapting. I’ve learned to focus on solutions, not challenges — and that mindset helped me transition smoothly here in Mexico.

What were the biggest challenges and accomplishments of this decision?

The language barrier was tough — training the local team in a different language required creativity. But we made it work through teamwork, visuals, and patience. The best part? Seeing how committed and collaborative the local team is.

What are the biggest cultural differences you’ve noticed?

Definitely the language and the food! Thai and Mexican cuisines are both spicy, but in totally different ways. Also, the cost of living here is higher than in Thailand — but you can get a second-hand car at half the price!

How do you see the career development opportunities SIG provides?

SIG is like a giant learning puzzle. I’ve picked up knowledge across Finishing, Printing, Maintenance, Quality and more. I still have a few areas to explore — but I love that SIG keeps challenging and rewarding my curiosity.

What advice would you give to SIGers considering global mobility?
  • Be open to new cultures and perspectives.
  • Stay adaptable — different isn’t wrong, it’s just new.
  • Be curious. That’s where the real growth happens.
