Please introduce yourself and mention how long you’ve worked in Bag-in-Box and Spouted Pouch substrates at SIG.
My name is Wiedjindra Bahoran, I’m 41 years old and currently working as an Operator 1 at SIG. I joined the company back in 2007, starting in the Bag-in-Box department, where I worked for 10 years. Since 2017, I’ve been part of the Spouted Pouch team, and the journey has been rewarding and full of learning.

What originally brought you to this part of the business?
I actually joined Scholle IPN – now SIG through my father, who also worked here. What’s special is that many of my colleagues are connected through family ties—it really creates a warm, supportive environment. That closeness is something I’ve always valued.

What makes working in flexible packaging exciting or unique?
It’s that moment when I walk through a supermarket and spot the SIG logo on packaging. You feel proud knowing you had a hand in creating something so widely used. There’s a sense of accomplishment that comes with knowing your work is part of everyday life.

What’s one challenge you’ve helped solve over the years?
One challenge I’m proud of is how we improved the machine startup process. It was a team effort, and by optimizing efficiency, we significantly reduced downtime and scrap. It was a meaningful improvement for both productivity and sustainability.

What’s a proud moment or accomplishment from your time here?
Being part of the full automation of Hall D stands out. It was a major shift in how we operate and felt like a real step toward the future. Contributing to that transformation made me feel proud and more connected to SIG’s long-term vision.

How has the business evolved — and what’s stayed the same?
We’ve advanced a lot—especially in automation and technology. But what’s remained unchanged is the team spirit. The sense of unity and commitment among colleagues has always been strong and continues to be a key part of our culture.

What advice would you give to someone just starting out in this space?
Enjoy what you do and keep learning. When you’re passionate, it shows in your performance. That mindset has helped me grow, and I’d encourage anyone new to the industry to stay curious and take pride in the journey.

Anything else you’d like to share about your journey?
What I enjoy most is the variety—no two days are the same. Add to that the strong collaboration with colleagues, and it makes for a job that’s constantly engaging and fulfilling.
