SIGers on the move: meet Mosharraf Hossan

Please introduce yourself and your role at SIG.
Hello, I’m Mosharraf Hossan, originally from Noakhali, Bangladesh. I joined SIG Saudi Arabia on March 1, 2005, after moving there in 2004. Over the past 20 years, I’ve grown through various roles—starting in operations and advancing into leadership positions in Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS).
Today, I’m based in Querétaro, Mexico, where I serve as EHS Manager for our SIG plant, and also lead EHS services for North America Aseptic, working alongside an incredible team committed to safety, excellence, and continuous improvement.
When did your move to Mexico take place?
I relocated to Querétaro in October 2022, while the plant was still under construction and machinery was being installed. My mission was to implement our EHS management system from the ground up and support the safe and smooth startup of operations.
What are your current responsibilities at SIG/North America?
In addition to overseeing EHS for the Querétaro plant, I lead EHS support for Aseptic operations across North America. This includes system implementation, training, compliance, and building a strong safety culture aligned with SIG’s global standards.
How was this transition for you?
The move was both challenging and exciting. I didn’t know much about Mexico at first, and everything—from food to culture to language—was unfamiliar. Finding Halal food was a personal challenge in Querétaro, but I managed by sourcing from Mexico City or preparing it myself.
Thanks to the incredible support of our Mexican colleagues and project team, I’ve been able to adjust and thrive. A special thanks to Eugen, our Head of Operations, for allowing me the time to attend Friday Jumma prayers, which is very important to me.
What were the biggest challenges and accomplishments of this decision?
Cultural differences and the language barrier were the toughest aspects—especially when training in Spanish, where I’ve had to rely on my team for translation. But with the support of everyone around me, we’ve made great strides together.
I’m proud of what we’ve achieved at SIG Querétaro:
✅ Zero incidents during startup – SIG Global Startup Award winner (2024)
✅ More than 3 years without lost time cases (LTC) "Since the start of construction, SIG Querétaro's employees have had no lost time accidents.
✅ 1 million safe man-hours reached in February 2025
✅ ISO 45001 & 14001 certification with zero nonconformities
✅ All legal EHS licenses successfully obtained
✅ 2 years LTC-free in North America Aseptic services
✅ 71% score in the SES Safety Pillar during the first SES maturity assessment in 2024
What are the main cultural differences or points you’d like to highlight?
Spanish language has been my biggest challenge—I’m still learning! Also, coming from Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia, it’s been a big adjustment in terms of food, religious practices, and even daily lifestyle. My family misses home, but we’re trying to adapting together.
My children, Fabiha (10) and Araf (7), are loving their new life in Mexico. They’ve adjusted quickly, made new friends at school, and are learning Spanish faster than I am!
The cost of living in Mexico—housing, food, healthcare—is significantly higher compared to Saudi Arabia, but we’re making it work as a family and continuing to learn every day.
How do you view this career development opportunity provided by SIG?
It’s been a transformative journey. SIG has given me the chance to grow across cultures, lead international teams, and contribute to building new sites from the ground up. I’ve worked with colleagues from Germany, Austria, Brazil, Thailand, Bulgaria, Morocco, and beyond.
My career path has taken me from:
🛠 Operations (2005)
➡️ Assistant Safety Officer (2008)
➡️ Safety & Hygiene Officer (2009)
➡️ Safety Engineer (Acting, 2012)
➡️ Safety Superintendent (2013)
➡️ Deputy Safety Manager (2016)
➡️ EHS Consultant at Obeikan Graphic Center (Riyadh) 2011 to 2015
➡️ EHS Manager, SIG Querétaro (2022)
SIG is one of the best companies for career growth, global exposure, and making an impact.
What advice do you have for colleagues interested in global mobility?
Be open to learning. Embrace change. Respect every culture you encounter. And most importantly:
“You are the only one who can change your life—so push yourself, go beyond, and stay hungry for opportunity.”
