Please introduce yourself and your role at SIG
Hi, I’m Tsvetana. I joined SIG in 2018 as Global Category Lead for Transport & Logistics, based in Linnich, Germany. In 2022, I relocated to Mexico to support the start-up of our Querétaro plant, and today I also serve as Interim Head of Procurement for North America Carton division.
What’s the most rewarding part of working in a different country?
The most rewarding aspect of working abroad is the personal growth and meaningful connections it fosters. Having lived outside my home country since I was 18, the experience has shaped who I am today. Moving to Mexico felt like the natural next step in my journey. When I first arrived, we were working out of construction containers, and now, I’m proud to have my own office! But what truly brings me the greatest reward is the relationships I’ve built. The people I meet here push me to be the best version of myself, while also presenting challenges that keep me evolving every day.
How was the adaptation process?
The adaptation process was both exciting and overwhelming. There were certainly moments of uncertainty, but I was fortunate to have colleagues I’d known for years, which made all the difference in feeling both supported and welcomed. Surrounded by like-minded individuals, we were all working toward the same goal: the success of the project. The sense of unity and collaboration was invaluable.
What were the biggest challenges and achievements of this decision?
Leaving behind my husband and mother in Europe was incredibly difficult. I arrived with just two suitcases, stepping into an entirely new chapter of my life. The language wasn’t too much of a hurdle, thanks to my time in Madrid, Spain. Culturally, I found many similarities with my Bulgarian roots, which made the transition smoother. Over time, I’ve built meaningful relationships here, and I can honestly say I’m the happiest I’ve ever been. Celebrating both Día de los Muertos and Eid Mubarak in the same year was a beautiful reminder of how multicultural and united our team truly is.
What are the biggest cultural differences you’ve noticed?
The food is a major highlight — real Mexican tacos are in a league of their own! While I do miss the cheese and yogurt from Europe, the culinary experience here has been a rewarding discovery. More importantly, this move has been transformative. It’s not just about the food or culture; it’s about the way these experiences have shaped me into a stronger, more adaptable version of myself.
How do you see the career development opportunities SIG provides?
SIG offers an incredible platform for international growth. The company’s size allows for visibility and real career development across regions. If you’re looking for global opportunities, SIG is the place to be — just raise your hand, work hard, ask questions, and stay persistent.
