The future is aluminum-free!

Rethink all you know about aseptic cartons and discover the word's first aseptic cartons with no aluminum layer and full barrier properties.

Cutting carbon. Not performance.

Up to -61% CO₂

SIG Terra Alu-free + Full barrier further reduces the already low carbon footprint of our carton packs by up to 61%* thanks to its innovative packaging material with no aluminum layer and when combined with forest-based polymers**.

Up to 12 months shelf life

SIG Terra Alu-free + Full barrier protects  all main beverage categories such as liquid dairy, fruit juices, nectars and plant-based beverages over long periods of time without the need for refrigeration.

Only 2 main materials

By taking out the aluminum layer and replacing it with an innovative, ultra-thin, polymer-based barrier, SIG Terra Alu-free + Full barrier offers the potential to simplify the recycling process for beverage cartons, with just two materials to separate (paperboard and polymers) instead of three.

Plug and play

A ready-to-go solution that works on your existing SIG filling lines at a speed of up to 24,000 packs / hour, making sustainability scalable, fast and cost-effective.

Up to 80% paper

With packaging material made of up to 80% paper content today, and a target of at least 90% by 2030, SIG Terra leads the way in renewable and recyclable, full-barrier packaging.

No aluminum layer, full product protection

By taking out the aluminum layer and replacing it with an innovative, ultra-thin, polymer-based barrier SIG Terra Alu-free + Full barrier cuts the carbon footprint of our aseptic cartons even further while maintaining the full protective barrier properties, high-quality standards, nutritional value, and shelf-life. The packaging material can seamlessly run on existing SIG carton filling lines with full performance. Also available with polymers linked to forest-based renewable materials**.

Growing our SIG Terra Alu-free + Full barrier portfolio

Building on the success of this groundbreaking packaging material innovation in the field of single-serve cartons – with over 300 million packs sold in China since 2023 – SIG is scaling up the world’s first, aluminum-layer-free full-barrier packaging material to multi-serve aseptic cartons and ready to provide it at scale to customers around the globe.

Latest press release

Leading the industry since 2010

In 2010, we pioneered the world’s first aseptic carton with no aluminum layer—years ahead of others. It was later also available with all main components linked to forest-based renewable materials via a certified mass-balance system. These first solutions were suitable for white milk, cream, and other products not sensitive to oxygen.

In 2023, our aluminum-free aseptic cartons entered a new era with a full barrier, making them the world's first alu-free aseptic carton suitable for a much broader range of food and beverage categories. What began with single-serve now includes multi-serve formats. Customers can now upgrade to SIG’s industry-leading aluminum-free solutions to further cut their carbon footprint.

More than 4 billion packages already sold!

Since launching the word's first aseptic carton with no aluminum layer in 2010, SIG has sold over 4 billion packs featuring no aluminum layer, including 300 million SIG Terra Alu-free + Full-barrier cartons. These milestones reinforce SIG’s leadership in sustainable aseptic packaging.
